DRAGONERA BOAT TRIP

What a trip!! We had the absolute pleasure of checking out one of Click Mallorca's day trips and we chose to take the boat to Dragonera Island.
The day started off early at Santa Ponsa Pier- make sure you arrive a little early as there are lots of boats coming and going and it can take a little while to work out which one you're supposed to get on amongst the hoards of confused people! (Maybe I needed more coffee?)
Once onboard you'll find PLENTY of spots to nestle down- the roof was understandably packed as the views are the best up there- but obviously the sun is hot hot hot and there's little shade, so we chose to set up base camp in a booth downstairs for wussies (or those with little kids) where it is much cooler with plenty of breeze.
There are toilets on board, a glass bottomed floor under deck for spotting fish, and two bars (prices aren't too bad at all). Try the Sangria, it was delicious!
The first couple of hours are spent cruising along the South West coast of the island towards Andratx. If you are lucky you'll spot some dolphins (no such luck for us this time though). The boat anchors into a little bay for half an hour so everyone can jump into the cool water or the more adventurous can slide off the back of the boat! Don't forget to pack armbands, goggles, and swimwear of course for everyone, though the water is a bit choppy so only brave this if you are a confident swimmer. Snorkels are provided should you wish to see what lurks beneath.
Next up, LUNCH! I was actually very impressed with the food offered. Huge paellas were cooked freshly onboard- a mix of meat and seafood. Bread and lots of simple, but fresh salad were dished up too. And for the veggies, there was a simple but well seasoned pasta salad. Water and sangria flowed freely throughout the lunch break and second helpings of everything greatly encouraged, so deffo take advantage.
Finally we approached Dragonera Island. The option was to remain on the boat whilst it cruised around the perimeter, or hop off and go exploring for an hour. I would certainly recommend the latter! Despite having a sweaty, grumpy 3 year old we decided to make the effort of a mini (and i must emphasise 'mini' here) hike. And wow! There are literally lizards EVERYWHERE. Stand still for one minute and they will surround you - not for the lizard fearing humans by the way. But so interesting and thrilling for kids and adults alike. We didn't get far along the well trodden path because it was so much fun, literally. And the scenery is gorgeous with lots of pine trees to keep you shaded along the way. Be sure to keep an eye on the time as we did see a family miss the boat as it left the island after the hour was up, you have been warned!
Back on the boat and it wasn't long before another splash in the water was offered- much needed in the summer heat for sure. Once back on dry land, and after a solid 5 hour trip- we were all knackered but very happy. I genuinely had no expectations of this trip but so so glad we did it. It has been a hotly talked about topic at home and will remain in the memory bank for some time :)
Tickets for adults are €30 per person, children aged between 6-12 pay €12.50 and the best bit of all, kids aged 0-5 go for FREEEE! So, yes it may be more than normally spend for a day out, but don't forget you can eat as much paella as you can fit into your tummy at lunchtime! So, yes, all in all I think the excursion is well worth it and I will definitely be trying out some of Click Mallorca's other trips on offer. Check out their website for discounted entry prices before you head anywhere too!
