Okay, Mallorca may boast 300 days of sunshine every year, but there are certainly moments where the fab weather turns oppressively gloomy and the black clouds arrive. Maybe its a perfect excuse to explore further what random experiences the island can offer away from its white sandy beaches? There are plenty of theatres, museums, art galleries, restaurants, shopping malls and soft play parks of course, and we have compiled a few family activities available to get you thinking outside of the box (and moving away from the TV!).

1. TEIXITS VICENS, Pollenca

Doors open throughout the week for guided tours where you can discover more about the fascinating history of the famous Mallorcan fabric, witness the passion and skill of the textile artists, admire the looms in action, and purchase gorgeous handmade products from the onsite shop. Phone ahead to reserve a spot.

2. EKARTS, Marratxi

What about a bit of indoor go-karting? Find your competitive side and race the rest of the family on this indoor track! Located at Mallorca Fashion Outlet, so can coincide perfectly with a bit of shopping, dining and even a trip to the cinema next door.

3. CUEVAS DEL DRACH, Porto Cristo

Guided tours through the illuminated caverns in Porto Cristo encourage you to imagine the experience of discovery by Edouard Martel in the late 19th Century. There are thousands of romantically named stalagmites and stalactites to see and do not miss the infamous classical music concert that is performed from little row boats on Europe’s largest underground lake.

4. ADVENTURE ROOMS, Palma

As a small group of discerning detectives, you must use puzzle-solving skills to find a way out of a locked room within 60 minutes. Cracking codes and beating the clock takes teamwork, intuition and patience. Head to the Adventure Cafe next door where you’ll find more puzzles to solve and plenty of souvenirs.

Open year round, 7 days a week 10am-10pm

5. TRADITIONAL GLASS MAKING TOURS

The earliest recorded glass furnace in Mallorca dates back to 1327. The island is home to three glass-blowing factories; Menestralia, Gordiola, and Lafiore. Visitors can watch master craftsmen dip long iron tubes into scorching hot glass then blow down the pipe to inflate and shape the molten liquid- a skill which takes many long years to accomplish.
