6 REASONS NOT TO GO TO STARBUCKS

With the newest addition of Starbucks to Plaza Cort (in Palma old town) causing a stir, I have decided to let you in on a few favourite spots for good well priced coffee with great ambience....Starbucks coffee is gross- once youve had good Spanish coffee youll realise how weak and flavourless it is anyway. Dont get me wrong, i love a Frappucino in the summer, and those are hard to beat. BUT what i love more is that Palma and Mallorca are full of independent cafes and restaurants- sadly the sight of Starbucks in touristy areas make me sad and think that maybe entrepreneurs who really care about their product and customers are being priced out of the hotspot areas. Apparently the rent for the cafe in Plaza Cort is €6000 per month, so yes it must be that no one else can afford these overheads. Shame. Im going to boycott the place anyway. Whos with me?!

Panaderia S'Estacio

Address: Carrer del Sindicat, 66, 07001 Palma, Illes Balears

Phone: 971 77 14 02

A really lovely patisserie, the novelty being the glass floor where you can look down into the kitchens below and watch the bakers in action! They also sell fresh bread and cakes to order for special occasions. Sadly no outdoor space but great for a quick pit-stop and caffeine hit.

Bar La Tapita

Address: Plaça de la Navegació, 16, 07013 Palma de Mallorca, Islas Baleares

Phone: 645 67 77 25

The coffee here is literally rocket fuel. Ive definitely had one too many coffees here and had a headache for the rest of the day so do take it easy. BUT it is good coffee and cheap and the tapas is freshly cooked and delicious- especially the fat tortillas. Also you cant really beat the atmosphere here, Santa Catalina market is a great place to go for your morning hit amongst the hustle and bustle!

La Molienda

Address: Carrer del Bisbe Campins, 11, 07012 Palma, Illes Balears

Phone: 634 52 48 21

Everyone knows this place for the delicious coffee and specialities such as green matcha lattes and variety of milks etc. A nice little place to sit outside in the square for some fresh air too. Everything is organic and ingredients are locally sourced. The breakfasts are delicious!

Rialto Living

Address: Carrer de Sant Feliu, 3, 07012 Palma, Illes Balears

Phone: 971 71 33 31

A little bit fancier and pricier, but a nice place to sit and read a magazine whilst drinking a cuppa. The shop is so lovely to stroll around and dont forget to chec out the free art exhibits upstairs- often showing work by local artists. A good place to take guests or your Mum!

Cafe Riu Tort

Address: Carrer del Carme, 21, 07003 Palma, Illes Balears

Phone: 971 09 27 24

I think this place probably serves up my favourite coffee in Palma, it just tastes soooo good. And its cheap. And the area is tucked away so its nice and quiet in high season. Its run by New Zealanders- they always know what theyre talking about when it comes to coffee snobbery hey? I trust them!

Brondo Architect Hotel

Address: Carrer de Can Brondo, 4, 07001 Palma, Illes Balears

Phone: 971 72 05 07

Maybe not the best coffee, its still good. I just love to pop in here when im in the thick of it all in Palma. It always seems to be quiet and peaceful and a little haven away from the madness. Especially good if you have kids/babies in tow, as they can mooch around on the outside terrace safely without bothering anyone too much! Plus we have often taken advantage of the comfy sofas at nap time :) Loads of magazines and books to read too....score
